THIS MONTH'S FEATURED ARTIST!

Artist Statement
I am a self taught artist, having enjoyed art throughout my life and taken a variety of different courses, but only emerged myself in it after retirement.
I grew up in an harbour city and loved all things related to water and nature. Just looking at the forever changing sky and river, I observed the colours ranging from pink, purple, yellow, blue, green, grey and black. My studio is filled with a collection of things that inspire me, from vines from the forest to shells, stones, driftwood and coral that I find on walks along the beach. Something always catches my eye and challenges me to create something unique.
Like many artists, I see an endless supply of ideas and uncharted territory yet to be explored. I experiment with different mediums to find my own style and I am constantly trying out new colours and techniques. In addition to creating an abstract background in acrylics on the canvas, I add detailed scenes and images to the artwork. By developing a technique of manipulating stones and wood onto the canvas, a textured surface is created, bridging the divide between a one dimensional wall painting and a three dimensional sculpture.
The process of an art piece is intriguingly unpredictable with results that range from surprising to exhilarating. I hope you will enjoy my creations.
