Jan Herington

Artist Bio
Jan is an emerging Canadian artist working in watercolour, coloured pencil, and, more recently, oil. Drawn to an eclectic mix of subjects—florals, landscapes, seascapes, animals, architecture, and expansive skies—Jan is continually inspired by the way light transforms the ordinary. Whether it’s the glow along a horizon, the soft shadows in a petal, or the shimmering reflection on water, her work centres on capturing moments where light creates a sense of presence and calm - always guided by a deep interest in how light shapes mood and meaning.
A couple of years of study in drawing and sketching, along with a self-taught journey into watercolour, shaped her early approach to detail and atmosphere. Coloured pencil brought a new precision to her work, while oil painting now offers a richer, deeper way to explore light and colour.
Working from her home studio, Jan embraces each piece as a mix of discovery, experimentation, and quiet reflection. Her art aims to share the simple beauty found in everyday scenes—inviting viewers to pause, look closer, and feel the moment of light within.
