Janice Addison

Janice Addison works with a variety of media and subjects, but is primarily known for her striking watercolour landscapes.

 

Janice soaks up as much knowledge as she can from the many artists whom she encounters, each bringing wonderful art experiences to her table.  Thanks to Gallery on the Lake, Haliburton School of Fine Arts and her various art groups, she has been able to take advantage of classes with professional artists, from Ontario and across Canada and the U.S.

 

Janice started her art journey with the watercolour medium.  She loves the fluidity, as well as both the softness and strength of colour, that you can achieve with watercolour.  Through her years of experience, she has become much more adept with this medium and has come to welcome its unpredictable nature.

 

Janice’s subjects have expanded from representational landscapes and waterscapes to flowers and architecture. Wanting to add figures to her paintings, Janice joined a life drawing group. That expanded not only her skills, but her repertoire of media, to include: charcoal, conte, graphite, ink and collage.  Currently, she is enjoying the versatility and forgiveness that the acrylic medium allows.

 

Janice strives to be painterly and impressionistic, using strong, expressive colour.  Her style is generally representational, but Janice appreciates all genres, from realism to abstract, and she incorporates them all into her work, from time to time.  She is fascinated by the art process and is continually learning and exploring.  Her best paintings occur when her inner kindergarten child emerges and the fun of the process becomes as important as the end result.

 

Throughout, Janice’s love of colour is predominant.  Enjoy her diversity.  Enjoy her journey.
