Sandra MacPherson

Artist Bio
Sandra was drawn to the arts from an early age, expressing interests in music, writing, ballet, theatre, and visual art. She began drawing "stories" as a young child and pursued singing and ballet through her teens. In her 30s, happily married and raising a child, Sandra began to dedicate time and energy to watercolour painting which she found fulfilling and restorative. Her portfolio of watercolour paintings grew to include landscapes, buildings, florals, still life, and figurative works. She became known for creating paintings that express the warmth of home and community and was frequently commissioned to paint “house portraits” for families who love their homes.
Now a painter for over 30 years, Sandra is inspired by A.J. Casson, Andrew Wyeth, Mary Pratt, and Helen McNicoll, among many others. She took classes at OCAD and worked in a number of workshops with Canadian artists. Recently, she has been seeking new challenges through experimenting with various water-based mediums, providing new growth for her as an artist. Painting in both watercolour and acrylic allows for contrasts in process and in style, while the work continues to tell “stories” and incorporate themes of peace and community,
Sandra is a member of Scugog Arts and the Port Perry Artists’ Association, a Past-President of the Willowdale Group of Artists, and participates in group and solo shows in Scugog, York Region, Huronia, Parry Sound, and Toronto. She enjoys teaching watercolour workshops from time to time. Her work is included in permanent art collections at the Heintzman House in Thornhill, and Caledonia House B&B in Stratford, and in various private and corporate collections across Canada.
