Artist Bio
My work is mostly in acrylic paint or is combined with acrylic compound creating textured effects on canvas. I employ abstraction or semi-abstraction to relate an idea to the viewer, perhaps reflecting a sense of emotion in the brushstrokes or an idea through collage using text or other materials. For example, in the acrylic painting “New Beginnings”, 2017, I included text in a landscape which put into words the plight and the struggles of refugees landing in Canada. I used touches of gold paint on the shoreline to symbolize hope for their future. I am proud of the fact it was sold to raise funds for the Syrian Refugees in our community.
I have an interest in the environment, the fragility of nature and our surroundings. The painting “Breaking Ground” I think will evoke an emotional response from the viewer. Some of my earlier work included bird studies in pen and ink as depicted in “Northern Cardinal”.
I began my art journey painting in watercolour many years ago. I have completed my studies in Fine Arts at York University and I have participated in workshops with noted local artists. I am an active member of the Port Perry Artists’ Association and the Scugog Council of the Arts.
I exhibit my work in group shows as well as a few venues in the town of Port Perry.
